Madison-Thomas Dixon Boyle, age 93, a life-long Madisonian, died peacefully at his home on July 11, 2018. Tom was born February 9, 1925 in Madison, Wisconsin to Dr. William and Henrietta (Dodge) Boyle. Tom served in the US Navy during WWII on the SS RIXIE.

After serving he returned to Madison, married Joyce Heisig and worked for Gisholt Machine CO until the company closed. From there Tom was part of management at Central Storage and City View Machine Co until he retired in 1980. In his youth, he spent most of his time at Tenney Park, swimming, running races, and ice skating.

During high school, at Madison Central, Tom was a half back for the varsity football team which won the Big 8 Conference Championship in 1942, a fond memory he loved to share. After his first wife’s death, Tom married Marilyn (Kien) Boyle in 1990. They both enjoyed traveling, playing golf, delivering “meals on wheels”, caring for their home and garden where they hosted many celebrations with family and friends.

Tom was a charter member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a charter member of Cherokee Country Club where he played golf and tennis well into his 80’s. He loved sports, he was a Badger season ticket holder and a loyal Brewer and Packer fan. He had a green thumb in the vegetable garden always growing “blue ribbon” tomatoes.

Tom’s loving and kind heart will always be remembered. Tom is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marilyn; daughter, Pam (Tom) Kursel; grandchildren, Connor, Renee and Ryan Kursel; and step children, Cheryl, Russell, Dawn and Robin Kien. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce; son, Robert; and two brothers, Bill and Jack Boyle.

Private family services for Tom will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Tom’s name to Agrace HospiceCare or St. Peter Catholic Church. “Afterglow” I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways. Of happy times & laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun. Of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.
