Obituary for Thomas F. Potvin Rye – Thomas Frederick Potvin, 69, of Rye, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at The Hyder Family Hospice House from complications of esophageal cancer. His wife, Louise (Collins) Curtin, with whom he shared many happy moments, was by his side. Tom was born on July 26, 1948 at Portsmouth Hospital to the late Henry A. Potvin and Helen J Thomas Potvin and lived in Rye the majority of his life.

He attended Rye and Portsmouth schools. After graduating from Nichols College, he was employed with IBM in the Boston area. Deciding ‘big business’ wasn’t for him, he left IBM to work in the construction field, concentrating in commercial masonry and light carpentry.

Becoming self-employed, he worked on masonry and carpentry projects for many clients in the Seacoast NH area. Tom especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, as well as time spent with her and family at their camp in Maine. He was a life-time member of the Mayflower Society.

While in the Rye Boy Scouts, Tom achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with bronze palm. He worked with Rye Cub Scouts, coached in the Rye Soccer and Rye Little Leagues. He was a past member of Kittery Point Yacht Club and relished time spent sailing.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, gardening, cooking, scuba diving and snorkeling. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by a step-daughter, Lisa Hasseltine and her husband Dr. Christopher Hasseltine and their children, Christopher and his wife Brittany, Joseph, Michael and Rachel all of Centerville, OH; a step-son, William Collins and his wife Martha and their children, Emily, Mitchell and Carolyn all of Winchester, MA. He is also survived by a daughter, Julie of Seattle, WA; a son, David of Colorado and a sister, Deborah Kelso and her daughter Sarah both of Andover, MA.

Tom’s family would especially like to express his most sincere gratitude to Amy Bessnow, MD, as well as the compassionate staff of the Seacoast Cancer Center, Beacon Hospice and The Hyder House for their outstanding professional and caring attitude. Keeping with Tom’s wishes, all services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seacoast Cancer Center, WD Foundation, 719 Central Avenue, Dover, NH 03820.
