Thomas Franklin Elson, 72, of Windsor, IL passed away at his home on Sunday, June 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor, IL is assisting the family. Tom was born on March 6, 1946, in Ash Grove Township, the son of Lloyd and Thelma (Farr) Elson.

He was a graduate of Windsor High School and served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Tom worked for 30 years at RR Donnelley and Sons in Mattoon, owned and operated Grandpa’s Woodworks & Dylan and Grandpa’s Bandsaw Mill.

Tom was proud to have built the cross at the Windsor Christian Church out of the beams from the original church. Tom was also the designer of the Tepee storm flap and enjoyed raising Elm Flat Suffolk Draft horses. He was a member of the Rogers’ Rangers of Wetzel’s Brigade, Garrett-Baldridge Post #725 of Windsor where he built their bar, VFW Lodge #4325 of Mattoon, Kaskaskia Valley Bass Club and the NRA.

Tom is survived by his wife, Linda of Windsor; daughter, Cynthia Jean (Jay) Rogers of Windsor; son Logan Thomas (Malea) Elson of Morrisonville; six grandchildren: Kurt, Dylan, Tanner, Wyatt, Harley and Emileigh; seven great-grandchildren: Olivia, Logan, Isaiah, Mark, Lainee, Aubrianna and Brylynn; sister, Jane (James) Richards of Windsor; two brothers: Eddie (Dee) Elson of Cisco and Joe (Wanda) Elson of Windsor and sister-in-law, Rosalee Elson of Strasburg. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Thelma and brother Lloyd “Sonny” Elson. A celebration honoring Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at his home located at: 1199 N 3115 East Road, Windsor, IL.
