Thomas “Tommy” Jackson Smith, 68, of Apple Springs, was born August 8, 1949 in Franklin, Louisiana, the son of the late Dwight Smith and Margaret (Hooper) Smith, and died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Smith loved to fish and do carpentry. He was in the U.S. Navy, where he served 3 tours during the Vietnam War on an ocean-going minesweeper.

Mr. Smith was awarded two bronze stars and a medal of Valor. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hilliard of Pollok; and his sister, Gwen Austin of Tyler. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Shafer Funeral Home, Lufkin directors.
