Tommy Ray Coward, 69, husband of the late Mary Burkett Coward, died Monday, September 24, 2018, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton.

Tommy was born on January 31, 1949 in Florence County, son of the late Archie Coward and Margie Gray Coward. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Cades United Methodist Church. Tommy retired after 40 years from Martek Biosciences Corporation.

He enjoyed traveling and riding his motorcycle. Surviving are his son, Matt Coward of Cades; brother-in-law, Joey Burkett of Cades; brothers, Bill (Dorothy) Tilton and Jack (Modrey) Coward, both of Columbia, and Mendel (Eva) Coward of Sumter; sister, Ann Hyman of Florence; sisters-in-law, Shirley Coward, Evelyn Coward and Thelma Coward; and a number of nieces and nephews. Tommy was preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey Tilton, Joel Coward, Bob Coward, Harry Coward, Dexter Coward, Wimpy Coward and Larry Coward; sisters, Helen Dennis and Polly Coward.
