Tony Torres, age 88, went on to be with the Lord June 15th, 2018. Born in Houston, Tx to Felipe Torres & Maria Louetta, having 2 bothers, Alfonso & Phillip Torres.

Tony began as a welder at the young age of 15 at the Houston Ship Channel Yards during World War II. Tony served his country in the United States Army, and was stationed overseas in Germany to serve his duties. He then went on to marry Irene Ayala Torres, with whom he fathered 6 children.

He was a great provider, wonderful husband and loving father. Among working many other jobs to support his family, always providing the very best for their education, safety and well being, he continued his career as an offshore welder with Kellogg, Brown & Root extinguishing massive off-shore oil rigs fires. Through hard work, dedication and making a point to do everything he did with quality, he was often promoted allowing him to travel to many parts of the world for his profession, being located primarily in Peru.

Without any formal education, Tony made his mark and worked side by side the very best engineers, even some world renowned names in the industry. Tony was known for his awesome cooking, he loved to prepare abundant wonderful meals and provide a time of fellowship with his family and friends. Anyone was always welcome to come and eat, and with enthusiasm would often ask when the next meal was.

Tony had quite the green thumb and loved gardening at his home, winning yard of the month on many occasions. Everyone who came into contact with him, even for a short time was sure to get a good laugh from him with his sharp witted humor. Tony gave his life to the Lord in 1992 and was baptized at Norhill Baptist Church in the Heights.

He would later become an honored member at Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church where he worshipped for many years. After almost 30 years of being widowed, he was able to find love again with Vivian De La Rosa. Becoming as one in the eyes of the Lord, they shared many wonderful parties at the senior center where they met.

They shared many blessed holidays and family occasions in which they were always ready to be a blessing to their family and friends. Tony survived Vivian, but continued to stay strong in the Lord. We wish to celebrate his Life, reminiscing with all the wonderful memories he left with each and every one of us.

He was a great man of character, a man of wisdom, a man with a giving spirit, giving true meaning to the phrase “A Heart of Gold”.
