Beloved son and brother passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 11, 2019. Age 33 years. The son of Colleen (Cooper) Weber and the late William H. Weber, Travis was born August 19, 1985 in Saginaw, Michigan.
He graduated from Michigan State University B.A. 2008 and Valparaiso University School of Law J.D. 2011 cum laude and was employed at Warner Norcross + Judd. Travis provided legal guidance on regulatory, legislative and political issues, helping clients navigate the legal complexities involving state and local governments. He helped forge relationships and pushed past legislative barriers to help individuals and businesses achieve their goals.
His background as chief legal counsel to former Governor Rick Snyder placed Travis on the front lines of business, legal, administrative, political and policy issues facing the state. Travis was a key member of the state’s leadership team and helped define policy priorities and provide strategic counsel to the Governor and executive office. Prior to his service to the Governor, he served as deputy legal counsel and senior policy advisor to the Speakers of the House of Representatives Jase Bolger and Kevin Cotter.
Travis managed tax policy, public finance matters and drafted several pieces of legislation to implement reforms for the City of Detroit during its historic Chapter 9 bankruptcy including the Michigan Financial Review Commission Act to provide post-bankruptcy financial oversight to the city. He clerked at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana, Honorable Rudy Lozano, and was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and Board of Commissioners. Travis also served as a Board Member for Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and Northern Michigan University.
Surviving besides his mother Colleen are one brother, Jeffrey Weber; a niece, Adeline Grace Weber; Travis’ grandparents, Bernard and Ruby Cooper; close cousins, Michael Kutsch and Jennifer (Geoff) Winsbro; several aunts, uncles, other cousins and many dear friends including a special friend, Amanda Elias. Travis was preceded in death by his father, William Weber, and by a cousin, Jeremy Cooper. Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 at Hopevale Church, 4873 N. Center Road, (corner of N. Center and Tittabawassee Roads), in Saginaw. Pastor Dan Davis will officiate. Friends may visit at Hopevale Church where the family will be present on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
