Velda Anderson Smith Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at age 95 from causes incident to old age. Velda was born October 22, 1922 in Provo, Utah, to Peter Henry and Martha Elizabeth Wride Anderson. On June 26, 1946, she married Hylon Eugene Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She attended school in Manti, Mona, Nephi, and Price. In these early years she loved to run and play softball. During the World War II era she worked at Keeley’s Cafe on State Street in Salt Lake City, Eitel McCullough, then at Beneficial Life Insurance, and Continental Bank.

After her children were born she quit working and became a wonderful homemaker and loving mother. When the children were grown she returned to work at Internal Revenue Service and retired in November 1984. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

From 1944-1946 she served as an LDS Stake Missionary in Salt Lake City. She also enjoyed serving in the Primary and as a Visiting Teacher. She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, reading, jigsaw puzzles, maps, and travel.

Her lifelong travels included many wonderful family vacations and travel to Canada and several countries throughout Europe. She had many wonderful stories, and a beautiful smile. She is survived by her son Gerald E. (Pierrette) Smith, daughter Karen S. (Jack, deceased) Lowe, brother Ray Elliot (Ardath) Anderson, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is now at peace. Preceded in death by her husband, brothers Glen Evan, Henry Kent, and Earl Wride, and her sisters Ruth (Hilmar, deceased) Haagensen, and Lois. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Farmington Pointe Ward, 905 Foxhunter Dr., Farmington, Utah.

Friends may visit with family at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd, Layton, Utah on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
