OBITUARY Velma Marie Gros July 30, 1930 – November 21, 2018 Velma Marie Plaisance “Meemaw” Gros passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Gros. Mother of, Theresa Tassin (James), Velma Hocut (Joe), Kathleen Rink (Eldridge), and the late Morris Riley Gros (Carol).

Daughter of the late Valture and Melody Plaisance. Sister of Winnie, Mary, Joyce, and Loyce as well as the late Mercy, Val (Dolores), Harris and Hazel. Grandmother of Tracy, Paul, Dane, Brandy, Bryan, and Jessica, as well as step-grandmother of Tanya and Denny.

Great grandmother of Brittney, Adara, Haleigh, Brandon, Bradley, Kollin, Kaidan, and Konner, as well as step great grandmother of Shantell, Jamie, and the late Raquel. Step great great grandmother of Joey and Thea. She was a dedicated mother who worked for many years in school cafeterias, at St. Joseph the Worker, Jefferson Parish Schools, and Concordia Lutheran School.

Many of her kids from John Ehret High School remember her as the “french fry lady” who gave generous portions, and was known to let them sneak back for seconds. She was a native of Golden Meadow, and longtime resident of Westwego and Marrero. She loved playing cards, going to bingo, and trips to the casinos.

She will be remembered for her sweet disposition and loving spirit. Everyone who met her loved her. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Ochsner Westbank Hospital for their loving and exceptional care for Mrs. Velma, and Tracy’s partner Arlene for caring for her as though Mrs. Velma were own grandmother.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum.
