Vernita Pape December 31, 1919 – January 29, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Vernita Pape, 99 of Maynard and formerly of Stanley, Iowa died Tuesday evening, January 29, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Stanley Union Church, Stanley, Iowa, with Rev. Philip Rownd officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment: West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa. Online obituary at www.

jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Vernita Minnie Julia Nodurft was born on December 31, 1919 in Strawberry Point, Iowa the daughter of Fred & Hilda (Frederick) Nodurft. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School and continued her education at Upper Iowa College in Fayette where she received her teaching certificate. She taught first through fourth grades in Waucoma and at country schools near Greeley and Edgewood.

Vernita was united in marriage to Victor Melvin Pape on January 20, 1951 in Strawberry Point, Iowa. The couple farmed near West Union for a few years until purchasing a farm south of Fayette in 1954 where they raised their family and lived until retirement. They moved to Stanley in 1985 where they were faithful members and care takers of the Stanley Union Church.

They also delivered the Shopper Newspaper for many years. Vernita later moved to Maynard. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, quilting, crocheting, collecting recipes, she loved to camp with Good Sam and Wild Rose Ramblers Camping Clubs, square dancing, traveling, visiting the Amish and spending time with her family.

Vernita is survived by her 7 Children: Eldon Pape of Stanley, Linda Kraemer of Cedar Rapids, Bruce (Jean) Pape of Maynard, Brice (Kim) Pape of Maynard, Karen (Gregg) Ford of Maynard, Daniel Pape of Ames and Sharon (Jason) Decker of Oelwein; 14 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Vonda Billhorn of Manchester and several Brothers-In-Law, Sisters-In-Law, Nieces & Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Victor on July 31, 2003; brother: Raymond Nodurft; grandson, Alexander Warnke and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
