Vernon Emory Billet, Sr., 88, died on Friday, February 1, 2019 at his residence. He was the husband of Janet L. (Mentzer) Billet. Vernon was born in York on February 15, 1930, son of the late Alfred E. Billet, Sr. and LeNora Marie (Viands) Billet.

Vernon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the York Newspaper Company in 1995. He was a member of the Kreutz Creek Valley VFW Post #7045, Moose Club, and the American Legion.

He loved going to yard sales with his best buddy. In addition to his wife, Vernon is survived by a son, Vernon E. Billet, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Manchester; two daughters, Delores Rodgers of York and Susan Noel and her husband, Leroy of York; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother, Alfred Billet, Jr. of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Boyer, Jr.; a daughter, Debra Boyer; three brothers, Harry E. Billet, Elsworth Billet, and John W. Billet; and four sisters, Arsulla Hoover, Phyllis Sidesinger, Beatrice Nace, and Dorothy Geiger.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. There will be a viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Mount Rose Cemetery with military honors conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County Veterans Honor Guard, P.O. Box 712, Mount Wolf, PA 17347.
