Vernon’s Obituary Ft. Dodge – Vernon Harold Everhart, 87, died February 18, 2019 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born on January 13, 1932 in Utica, the son of Clinton Harold and Frances Fern (Phares) Everhart.
Vernon graduated from Dodge City High School in 1950. After graduation, Vernon enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. After his discharge, Vernon attended LaToureau Technical College in Longview, Texas where he earned an Engineering degree.
Vernon was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Fabick on June 6, 1955. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2014. After graduation, they moved to Hutchinson where Vernon worked for Cessna Aircraft Company.
Vernon and Dorothy moved to Dodge City in 1976. They owned and operated Ranchwood Mobile Estates as well as Das Smokehouse both in Dodge City. Vernon enjoyed fishing and taking family vacations.
The family traveled to many different places and after the kids were grown, Vernon and Dorothy continued to travel. One of Vernon’s favorite trips was the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was a member of the Dodge City Lions Club, Dodge City Roundup, Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W.; as well as the Saddle Club and South Hutch Rodeo both of Hutchinson.
He was also a youth director at the Nazarene Church in Hutchinson. Vernon is survived by three daughters, Debra Kay Mandeville, Karen Jo Blankman and husband Ron, and Marsha Lynn Weber and husband Michael all of Dodge City; seven grandchildren, Joshua Ledbetter, Jacob Mandeville, Brandon, Kassidie, and Kameren Blankman, Ty and Payton Weber all of Dodge City; six great grandchildren, Draven, Kayden, Khloe, Corben, and Taryn Mandeville and Michael Partridge; one brother, Kenneth Everhart and wife Shirley of Winfield; three sisters, Bonnie Vail and husband Don of Springdale, Arkansas, Myrna Eastin of Provo, Utah, and Barbara Wilson of Salina; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Everhart of Dodge City. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Linda Sue Everhart; brother, Delwin Everhart; and two brothers-in-law, Gene Eastin and Don Wilson.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerre Nolte and Mr. Carl Duane Everhart presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Ft.
Dodge with military honors by the United States Navy Funeral Honors and Howard Gotschall. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Vernon Everhart family to purchase items for the veterans at Fort Dodge.
