Vernon H. Barefield, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2018 at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on August 13, 1921 in Toxey, AL. Vernon was a WWII Navy veteran and retired from NAS Jacksonville and Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Vernon was a member of the Lakeshore United Methodist Church and the Wesconnett Masonic Lodge No. 297. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Blanche Gunter Barefield; and by his parents, Abe and Ona Davidson Barefield.

Vernon is survived by his son, Larry Barefield and his wife Connie; two granddaughters, Andrea Phillips and Melanie Brissett (Zach); six great-grandchildren: Emma Brissett Harris (Phillip), Clare and William Brissett, Dalton, Julia, and Carter Phillips; and one great-great grandson, Theodore “Theo” Harris. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 22, 2018 with Rev. Richard A. Petry officiating.

Visitation will be at noon, one (1) hour before the service.
