*This is a courtesy listing for the entire Springer family and Butler Volland Funeral Home of Hastings, NE Hastings resident, Vic Springer, 78, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at his home. Celebration of Life Services are 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Reverend Jim Miller of Lincoln officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be in Parkview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be 1–7 p.m. with family present from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Vic was born November 1, 1939, to Willard & Nada (Beavers) Springer in Superior, NE.

He graduated from Superior High School in 1957. He was a member of the United States Army from 1959 through 1962. He was a member of the A Battery, 73rd Artillery, 3rd Army Division.

He was stationed in Hanau, Germany for 32 months while the Berlin Wall was being built. Upon his return from the Armed Services, he married Diana Dale (Simmons); to this union, four children were born. Vic was a police officer and Assistant Chief with the Superior Police Department.

He was a member of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years and served as an Assistant Chief and Chief. Vic also was a Certified Ambulance Technician for 10 years. In 1987, Vic and his family moved to Hastings where he worked for Central Community College.

Vic retired from Central Community College as Chief of Security in 2002. Vic’s grandchildren were the light of his life. They were the reason he kept fighting for life.

He spent much of his spare time with them. Vic enjoyed watching races of all kinds including; stock cars, trucks, and especially NASCAR. He could be found cheering on Dale Earnhardt and then Matt Kenseth.

He also enjoyed the yearly family camping trip to Lovewell Lake just south of Superior. Vic was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Kenneth Dale; and brother, Gordon.
