Vincent’s Obituary Vincent DePaul Ghioto, age 94, of McDonough GA, died Thursday, February 21st, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville FL, the 9th of eleven children of the late Harry Telfair and Mary Ann Losco Ghioto. He attended St. Joseph Academy in Jacksonville, FL.

He worked with his brothers after school to help with his fathers’ livestock business. Vince also worked as a caddy for Brentwood Golf Course in Jacksonville. Not wanting to be left out he joined his brothers to work on a dredge boat operated by the Army Corp of Engineers on the Island of Bermuda.

During WWII he served in the U. S. Navy, Pacific theater, as a Boatswain’s Mate 2nd class on an LCT. He and his crewmates were on the beach to witness first hand General Douglas McArthur’s triumphant return to the Philippines. He saw action in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Mid-way.

When he returned home, he became a Class A Professional Golfers Association of America Teaching Professional. He was hired as the head Professional of San Jose Country Club. He was responsible for returning the club to its pre-war championship status.

He later moved to Decatur, GA, to become the head pro of East Lake II. After retiring he became an ordained minister with Team Jesus Ministries. He ministered to the inmates at Henry County Jail for 10 years.

His first marriage to Phyllis Ilene George produced a daughter Phyllis Elizabeth Ghioto . Vincent later married Janice Welch Rawls who had two daughters from a former marriage, DeAnna Rawls Racine and Peggi Rawls Lauver. Together Vince and Janice had Deborah Anne Ghioto and Christine Maria Ghioto.

He is survived by his daughters Peggi Lauver of Titusville, FL, Phyllis Ghioto Vandigriff of Middleburg, FL, Deborah and son-in-law Jessie Perry, Jr. of McDonough, GA , Christine Ghioto Crews of Canton, GA. He is lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren and 23 great- grand children and countless nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Anita Ghioto Rogero Waugh of Dayton, OH, and his brother Ronald Ghioto of Jacksonville, FL.
