Obituary for Virgie L. Hughes (Hicks) Virgie L. Hughes, 95, of Piedmont, MO, passed away January 18, 2019 at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center. She was born in Piedmont, MO, August 20, 1923 to parents Benjamin F. and Letha S. (Chiles) Hicks. Virgie was a loving mother, grandmother.

She grew up on Big Lake in rural Piedmont and attended Green Hill school. She was the oldest of eleven children. Virgie married Arnold E. Hughes July 16, 1939 and they were blessed with two children.

She was a strong Christian and stood in the gap with prayer and faith for her family many times. She was a humble person and never demanding. Virgie loved working with the public and living and sharing her faith.

She was a member at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont, MO, for over fifty years. She was a constant helper to her husband, working tirelessly in their gas station for many years. She worked at New Era shirt factory and was also a cook at JR’s restaurant many years ago especially known for her chili and bread pudding.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight devoted and blessed years; son-in-law: Ronald Ross; brother: Floyd Hicks, Willis Eugene “Gene” Hicks; sister: Violet Hunter, Ruby Sutton, and two infant sisters. Virgie is survived by children: Eddy Hughes and wife Elaine of Piedmont, MO, Anna Lea Ross of Piedmont, MO; brothers: Carl Hicks and wife Brenda of Arnold, MO, Loy Hicks and wife Linda of Bowling Green, KY; sisters: Glenda Taylor and husband Mike of High Ridge, MO, Barbara Lane and husband Jerry of Piedmont, MO; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 12:00 pm, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO.

Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm also at the Piedmont chapel. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont, MO. Online condolences can be made at www.
