Virginia J. Miller, age 96, of Marion, Wisconsin, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville, Wisconsin. Virginia June Miller was born January 17, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of the late Selby & Dorothy (Malone) Miller. She had three brothers who preceded her in death, Charles, Selby and Donald.

After receiving her nursing degree at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Virginia joined the army as a nurse and joined her brothers, Selby and Donald at the front in WWII. After the war, she became a nursing instructor at several universities ending her career at University of Arizona, Tucson. For 50 years Tucson would be her home and she was an Arizona Wildcat Basketball Fan.

Virginia stayed active in a variety of exercise programs making many lifelong friends. Virginia loved and cared for many wiener dogs throughout her life-they were her family. Survivors include, locally, her niece, Sally Peterson and her husband Scott; great- nephew, Matthew Peterson and his wife Jody; great-great-nieces, Mia and Ava Peterson; great-niece, Marnie Bredlau, her husband Todd; and great-great-nephew, Hank Bredlau.

Other family includes nieces and nephews, Sherry and Tara Miller, Pat and Caren Miller, Mike Miller and Jo Miller. Per her wishes, Virginia will be cremated and her ashes will be interred with her parents at the cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Please no flowers or contributions.

A special thank you to the Greentree staff who have been Virginia’s family since September 2014. Also thank you to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care during her finally days. Its hard to say good bye to such an awesome woman who worked to support career woman everywhere and cracked the glass ceiling for woman throughout the 40’s – 80’s.
