Nepodahl 96, of DeKalb died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at home. She was born June 19, 1922 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of Lawrence and Agnes (Klaus) Schirmann. Virginia graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago in the class of 1940 and attended Northwestern University.

Virginia met Frank while he was stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago, during W.W.II. , at a USO Dance. She married Frank V. Nepodahl on July 15, 1944 in Chicago, IL, they were married for 44 years until his passing on December 27, 1988.

Virginia worked for the Treasury Department during World War II, she was a part-time school teacher. She has spent 29 years in DeKalb moving here from South Dakota and living most of her life in Chicago and Elk Grove Village. Virginia was an Alter and Rosary Society member for 7 years and President for 6 years, she was a Blue Bird Leader and Camp Fire Girls Leader, and she was also an Election Judge in Elk Grove Village and Chicago.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb. Survivors include three children; Kathryn Spencer of Hoffman Estates, Adrienne (Michael) Salmon of Geneva, IL, and Lawrence P. Nepodahl of DeKalb. Grandchildren; Debra (Matthew) Staben, Jeanne (Andrew) Nolan, and Laura (Ryan) Asher, Shawn (Elaina) Salmon, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Salmon, and Heather Lynn (Nathan) Kaufman.

Great Grandchildren; Delaney and Alaina Nolan, Eamon and Nia Salmon, Katelyn, Jacob, Madelyn, and Nathan Asher. Two Nephews; Patrick (Carolyn) Channing and Scott (Kim) Channing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank and sister Lorraine Channing-Elwood.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb with Father Dean Russell officiating. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 9:30am until the time of service at the church.
