Virginia Mae Johnson, 90, of Carlinville, formerly of Springfield, passed away on May 30, 2018 at Heritage Health in Carlinville. Virginia was born on May 18, 1928 in Rochester, the daughter of Forrest and Helen White Pryer. She married William Johnson on May 4, 1946; he preceded her in death on May 27, 1992 She worked for Zayre Stores, Venture Department Store and Brown Shoe Company.

She enjoyed puzzles, word search, and listening to country music. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Carl (Cynthia) Johnson of Springfield, Peggy (Scott) Saunders of Springfield, Barbara Deatherage of Bridgeton, MO, John “Duke” Johnson of Springfield, Eric (Pam) Johnson of Taylorville and Sheila (Ron) Atchison of MO; brother, Forrest (Annie) Pryer of Springfield; sister, Martha Farley of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
