Walter A. Collier, 80, of Methuen passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018, at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill. The son of the late Walter A. and Winnifred (Goggin) Collier, Walter was born in Lowell, MA on February 11, 1938. He was educated in Methuen schools.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served aboard the U.S.S Charles R. Ware (DD-865) as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He was discharged in 1959 and received several awards for his service. He was appointed as a part-time firefighter with the Methuen Fire Department in 1967 and in 1972 was appointed full time.

During his 27 year career he served at all the Methuen stations and retired as a Lieutenant at the West End Station in Methuen. He was also self-employed as a home improvement contractor for many years. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and his main interest was his family.

He enjoyed traveling and wintered in Florida. He was an avid fan of antique cars and attended many car shows. Walter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa L. (Lavoie) Collier; His children, David A. Collier and his wife Susan of Wells, ME; Scott E. Collier and his wife Dina of Methuen; Diane M. Collier and Bill Simpson of Greenland, NH, and Linda J. Collier of Largo, FL; His four grandchildren; Matthew Collier and his wife Jessica of Methuen; Mark Collier and his wife Kellie of Methuen; Felicia Hollingsworth and her husband Tyler of Pinellas Park, FL and Raynna Collier of Methuen; 5 great-grandchildren; A brother Robert Collier of Florida; A sister Shirley Groleau of Salem, NH, and several nieces & nephews.

Walter was predeceased by his siblings Bryce Collier, Jean Mass and Frederick Collier. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to calling hours on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will take place at 1:00PM at the funeral home.
