Walter “Jay” James Rothschild Jr., a longtime resident of Slidell Louisiana, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 89. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter and Elizabeth Rothschild and was a graduate of engineering at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now ULL in Lafayette. He was the devoted husband of the late Faye Bubrig Rothschild for 28 years.

Jay was a devoted employee in the aero-space field employed by Chrysler and Martin Marietta for over 30 years. He was given a presidential award of excellence for his innovative design on the external fuel tank of the space shuttle. After retiring, Jay enjoyed traveling and fishing with his family.

He is survived by his sons Walter James Rothschild III (Barbara), Alexander Rothschild (Erin), Christopher Rothschild, Sebastian Rothschild and Michael Rothschild (Katy); his grandchildren Brad Rothschild (Holly), Elizabeth Rothschild Woolley, Jesse Gerkin, Errol Torres (Cheyenne), Kaysie Torres (Joey) as well as 11 great grandchildren. Jay is also survived by his devoted and loving companion of six years, Miriam Rohner, his brother Michael LeBlanc, his sister Charlotte Castille and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his wife, parents, stepfather Lee LeBlanc, in laws Frank and Ruby Bubrig, brother L.A. LeBlanc and infant brother Charles Rothschild.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, La. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, La.
