OBITUARY Walter Russell Henson Jr. November 23, 1946 – September 24, 2018 Walter “Russell” Henson was born November 23, 1946. Russell was a Christian who went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 24, 2018. Russell was a native Houstonian.
He joined the U.S. Army shortly after high school and served in Germany from 1966 to 1968. After the service, he returned to Houston, and was accepted into The Houston Police Department’s Police Academy as part of class #40. Russell served from 1969 to 2011, in the Department’s Accident Division, and Hit & Run Detail.
Russell again felt the urge to serve his community, and was sworn in as a Deputy Constable with Harris County PCT 1, working as a Civil Court House Deputy for three years. Russell was preceded in death by his father, Walter Russell “Buck” Henson, and his mother, Juanita Castro; step-father Clifford Castro; sister-in-law Rose Henson, and niece Rhonda Henson. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 26 years, Sandra Jean Henson; his children: Leslie Diane and Doug Pavlock, and Gregory Russell and Erica Henson; brother Ronald L. Henson; nephew Bradley Henson; step-children Roy and Dana Jones, Mark Donaldson, James and Tina Fasnacht, Brian and Christine Wittmer and grandchildren Paula Henson, Sarah Pavlock, Samuel Henson, Mikaela Wittmer, McKenna Wittmer, and several other step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He had many friends in the Police Department and the Constable’s Office and his friends Kenneth and Linda Thomas, Ronnie Helen Ledore, Gary Shannon McMillon, John Ward, and Larry Harrison. Russell and Sandra enjoyed traveling; their travels took them internationally and throughout the United States. Russell loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke.
His laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A visitation for Walter will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM in the Family Chapel at Brookside followed by a burial to follow immediately at Brookside Memorial Park.
