Obituary of Walter King Walter Ivan King, 77, a resident of Elmcroft Senior Living in State College, died Monday, April 2, 2018, at Hearthside Nursing Home. Born March 3, 1941, in York, he was the son of the late Robert Louis and Lydia Emma Hartsough King. On November 9, 1963, he married Christine Ann Letowt, who died November 2, 2009.

He is survived by his 3 children, Kevin A. King and his wife, Kelley, of Concord, CA, Rachel J. Linder of Mission Viejo, CA, and Natalie A. Hagle and her husband, Retired Sergeant Major James Hagle, of Allegany, NY; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley, Megan, Kyler, Karley, Zachary, and Melanie; one great-grandson, Tanner; and his brother, Robert L. King, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Dover, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Elliott. Walter graduated from William Penn High School in 1959.

He received his bachelors from Lehigh University in 1963. Walter began his career as a computer programmer for Bethlehem Steel before moving on to coaching football at Lehigh University, Liberty High School and Bethlehem Catholic High School. At his lone season at Bethlehem Catholic in 1967, his team posted a perfect 10-0 record.

From 1971 until 1975, he was the athletic director and football coach at Central Catholic in Allentown, which included an undefeated season in 1971. Walter taught math and coached at The Bullis School in Potomac, MD from 1976 until his retirement in 2008. Throughout his 31 years there, Walter served as athletic director and coached football, golf, baseball, and wrestling.

He was named Teacher of the Year in 2000, the same year his Bulldog team posted an undefeated season. He is a member of the Bullis Hall of Fame and the Maryland High School Coaches Hall of Fame. He loved all sports and was an avid softball player well into his 60s.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, travelling with his wife, a good cigar on occasion, and spending time with family and friends. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 4:30p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the Discovery Center at The Bullis School, 10601 Falls Road, Potomac, MD. A Burial Service will be held at Holy Savior Cemetery, 2575 Linden St, Bethlehem, PA, at 1p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
