Wanda’s Obituary Wanda D. Hottenstein, 85, of Platteville, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a rosary at 1:45 P.M., friends may also call from 10:00 A.M. until time of the services Monday at the church. melbyfh.com. Wanda was born on June 13, 1933 in Belmont, Wisconsin, daughter of John “Charlie” and Blanche (Harrington) Shaw. She was united in marriage to Mervin Hottenstein on May 5, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville.

Together Wanda and Mervin farmed in Lima Township, Grant County, where they were the assessors and bookkeepers for the township in their early married years. Wanda always kept busy and was an ambitious person, starting her employment career at Dunn & Bradstreet in Dubuque. She also worked for William Broske at the Rewey Creamery, Jenny Brothers, Meythaler & Caton Accounting, Consumers Co-Op and then she helped start the consumers truck stop station.

Wanda and Mervin ran the Union Store from 1964 through 1969. Later, she worked for Lands’ End in the monogramming department for 20 years. Wanda was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and CCW and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Wanda enjoyed the outdoors, tending to her flowers and lawn, and watching the birds, especially bluebirds. Wanda and Merv also enjoyed dancing in their younger years. Wanda is survived by her husband, Mervin; seven children, Debra (Thomas) Reynolds, Kathy (Jamie Schildgen) Hottenstein, Becky (Dennis) Schmidt, Brenda (Randy) Ertz, Tom (Cari) Hottenstein, Bart (Kim) Hottenstein and Ann (Mike) Rupp; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

She is further survived by her sisters, Charline Hoppenjan and Grace Pratt; brother-in-law, Herbert Hottenstein and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law, Ed and Emily Hottenstein; sister, Beulah Lipska; brother, Jim Shaw; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Hottenstein, Elda Hottenstein; brothers-in-law, Jack Hoppenjan, Marvin Pratt, Francis Lipska and Herman Hottenstein; niece, Diane Lipska and nephews, Dennis Pratt and Gene Hottenstein. The family would like to THANK everyone for all the care she received during her recent years with Alzheimer’s, Park Place Memory Care, Gray’s Nursing Home and Manor Care/Edenbrook.
