She was born July 3, 1930 at Oklahoma City to Ray and Norma Palmer Phelps. She married Curtis Gillaspy October 16, 1948. He preceded her in death February 7, 1991.

Wanda and Curtis moved their family to Ada in 1968 from Oklahoma City. As a young mother in Oklahoma City, she enjoyed being a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader and family camping trips. The neighborhood kids seemed to be at the Gillaspy house where Wanda always seemed to have extra helpings for whoever dropped in at dinnertime.

After moving to Ada, she enjoyed working at Hospital Products, Inc. as well as acting as the Activities Director for the Aldredge Building Senior Citizens. She was active in Eastern Star as a Past Matron and Past Mother Advisor to the Ada Rainbow Girls. After buying their home in Fittstown, she became a member of the Fittstown Methodist Church.

She began entering her baked goods, canned foods and floral arrangements at the fair where she won many ribbons and prizes and loved to share the works of her labor. After her family was grown, she started working at Encore Clothiers in Ada where she also brought her usual energetic work ethic to a job she loved. She will be missed by her family and they only hope she knew how much we appreciated all her hard work and sacrifice she made for our family.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Phillips and husband Roger, and Debra Cheatwood and husband Larry. She is survived by her grandchildren, Curtis Worthy, Sherri Adams, Michael Phillips, Angela Phillips, Christina Cummings, Carla Geiger, Gary W. Geiger, Billy Hendrix, Jason Cheatwood, Jeff Cheatwood and Greg Cheatwood; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Betty Jo Phelps; two sons, Gary Curtis and Lester Ray; step-father, “Daddy Wayne” Hogan; and great-granddaughter, Faith Carol Worthy.

Grandsons will serve as bearers: Curtis Worthy, Billy Hendrix, Jason Cheatwood, Jeff Cheatwood, Greg Cheatwood and Paul Adams. Honorary bearers will be Shawn Cummings, Ron Richardson, Michael Phillips, Troy Cummings, Colby Benjamin and Chase Adams. The family says those who wish may make memorials to: American Cancer Society, High Plains Division of Pontotoc County; or to Trinity School in Oklahoma City in memory of Faith Worthy.
