Obituary for Wauneta Ortloff (Jones) Wauneta Georgia (Jones) Ortloff passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, June 2, 2018 just 15 days shy of her 95th birthday. She was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on July 17, 1923 to George M. and Beaulah (Keathly) Jones, and had one younger brother, Dwain A. Jones. Wauneta met the love of her life, Lowell V. Ortloff, at college in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.
They were married in 1944 and moved to Tulsa, where they raised three children, Alan, Wayne and Rita Ortloff (Basom). Wauneta and Lowell were also “honorary parents” to foreign exchange student Jenny Suarez (Jordan). Wauneta was a homemaker, who always had time for her children.
She was a superb seamstress, making her own, and many of her children’s clothes, including prom dresses for Rita and Jenny. In 2006, Wauneta moved to Cheyenne, WY, to be near her daughter’s family, and lived first at Pointe Frontier, then Sierra Hills, and most recently, Primrose. Wauneta was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wayne; husband, Lowell; brother, Dwain; and great-grandson, Ryan Ortloff; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, brother-and sister-in-laws, and cousins.
She is survived by son, Alan (Pam) Ortloff of Madill, OK; daughter Rita (Mike) Basom of Cheyenne, WY; “honorary daughter” Jenny (Jack) Jordan of Haughton, LA; grandchildren, Steven (Amy) Ortloff of Madill, OK, David (Rita) Ortloff of Oklahoma City, OK, Bradley (Elyse) Ortloff of Santa Clarita, CA, Rachel Moxley and Robyn Moxley, both of Laramie, WY, Derek Basom of Cheyenne, WY; and four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Emily, Ryan and Paige; as well as three honorary grandchildren and their families. A funeral service will be held at First Christian Church in Cheyenne, WY, at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3. Public viewing will be held preceding the service from 2 – 3p.m., and a reception will follow the service.
Graveside services will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Wauneta’s name to the National MPS Society or the Ark Regional Services Creative Arts Endowment.
