Wava Jean Stevens, age 88, of Edgewater, stepped into Eternity on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Born in Columbus, IN to Ira and Alice Bloomenstock; Wava set up home in Edgewater, FL. in 1991 from a well lived life in Indiana to begin making new lifetime memories, friends and adventures!
This was an incredible, unique and adventurous one of a kind woman! The Wava we all knew and loved was never really comfortable unless she was 100% in charge of every situation. She never lacked confidence in herself or saw anything as a Challenge she could not master.
Speaking her mind, often bluntly, came naturally. Everyone with whom she communicated always knew exactly where she stood, good or bad. Along with being exceptionally confident, Wava enjoyed traveling the world.
Even in her eighty’s, She often times drove across the whole United States to visit Family and Friends. She was well known and loved in her community, very strong willed, and quite a character. Wava loved getting back stage passes, photos and autographs from every famous person she could.
She was an arctophilist and has the largest teddy bear collection you have ever seen and was very passionate about her collection. One unique lady, Wava will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. As a former teacher, Wava began her career teaching French and Mathematics at Columbus High School.
However, she spent most of her professional career as a fifth grade teacher at Richards Elementary in Columbus, IN and she was damned good at it. She was the teacher that no student, no matter how incorrigible, crossed. They usually feared for their lives!
However, by a few months in she had captured their hearts, was greatly loved and soon became their most memorable teacher. Survivors include her daughter, Jane (Rick) Bailey of Colorado Springs, CO; sons, Michael Jay (Coni) Stevens of Bullhead, AZ and Bradley Clay (Jen) Stevens of Bullhead, AZ; 2 granddaughters, Jansen Howard and Jarryn Bailey, both of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 grandson, Jordan Howard of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 great granddaughter, Arrow Crowbear, of Colorado Springs, CO. Wava was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Loren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6 at Settle-Wilder’s chapel with Jarryn Bailey, officiating. Entombment will follow at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Friends will be received on Saturday, October 6 from 12 Noon until the time of the service.
