Wayne’s Obituary Wayne O. Brodland, Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Village. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. -7 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Home, South Minnesota Ave. , with a time for sharing to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, March 29th at St. John’s American Lutheran Church with burial at Salem Community Cemetery, rural Freeman.

Wayne Olin Brodland was born on May 5, 1928 to Arthur and Martha Brodland in rural Freeman, SD. Wayne’s father died of double pneumonia when Wayne was 18 months of age. Wayne’s mother remarried when he was 5 years of age to his uncle George Brodland.

To this union, Gene Arthur and Ray Luther were born. Wayne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Wayne attended Molan Country School, rural Menno, SD.

He attended High School at Augustana Academy, Canton, SD. On June 18, 1950, Wayne married Elaine Marie Madsen at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg. This marriage was performed by Wayne’s grandfather, Rev.

O.H. Brodland. This union was blessed with two daughters, Jan Katherine Londo and Joan Martha Berg. Wayne worked 10 years for the South Dakota Department of Highways and then followed with driving school bus and being self- employed for a short time.

He then spent the next 11 years as a Driver’s License Examiner for the State of South Dakota. Wayne had the courage at this time in his life to make a career change and become a Nursing Home Administrator in his home town. He spent the next 3 years as an Administrator at the Menno Olivet Care Center.

Following this, Wayne joined the Good Samaritan Society and the family moved to Winthrop, Minnesota, where Wayne became the Administrator of the Good Samaritan Center in Lafayette, Minnesota. He spent the next seven years in Lafayette. Wayne and Elaine then moved to Windom, Minnesota, where Wayne became the Administrator of the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Center, Windom, Minnesota, where he spent the next several years until he retired.

Following retirement, Wayne and Elaine moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1993. Wayne enjoyed many years of pheasant hunting with family and out of state hunters. He restored his Grandfather O.H. Brodland’s Model A, as a hobby prior to his retirement.

He loved music and sang Barbershop in his younger years, many solo’s in his lifetime, as well as in a Barbershop Chorus in Windom, Minn. , a highlight of his lifetime. Grateful for having shared his life of 68 years, his loving wife; Elaine, daughters, Jan Londo and Joan Berg, Grandchildren: Andrew , Austin , and Crystal Berg, Lyndsey and Lesley Londo, brothers, Gene A. Brodland (Evie), Ray L. Brodland (Connie), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. John American Lutheran Church.
