Funeral services for William G. Stone, Jr., 83, will be held 11 am, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 9 am in the Parish Life Center. Mr. Stone went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Born in Charleston, SC, he was the only child of the late William G. Stone, Sr., and Fay Coker Stone. Mr. Stone worked as a telephone engineer first with Western Electric and then Bell South. He and his wife decided to buy a farm in Lexington, SC to raise their family of four children.

He loved spending time teaching his children and grandchildren about camping, hunting, fishing, and farming. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he served as a Boy Scout and Sea Scout Leader and coached the Lexington Jaycees Dixie Youth Baseball team while his sons were young. He also coached the St. Peter’s Lutheran men’s basketball team for many years.

Two of his favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing and he was a member of several hunting and fishing groups: The Weekenders, We Ten, and the Jordan Branch Hunt Club in Fairfield County. In later years, he led a Bible Study at St. Peter’s on Wednesday morning where the group studied the entire Bible chapter by chapter over a period of eight years. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Reita D. Stone; sons Sam Stone (Marsha DeRosier), Tommy Stone (Jenny); daughters Diane Feltman (Alvin), Suzette Anderson (David); nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two first cousins who were like sisters, Thelma Hicklin and Penny Molony; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 455 St. Andrews Rd. , Columbia, SC, 29210.
