William (Bill) Scoffield Bennett 1933 – 2018 Bill first greeted his parents, Leland and Leone Scoffield Bennett on August 26, 1933 in the “old Dee Hospital” in Ogden, Utah. He victoriously fought many health woes throughout his life, beginning at the age of 6 weeks. To the sorrow of those who love him, he finally lost the battle to Heart Failure on July 26, 2018.
Bill married Marilyn Pearson with whom he had two sons, Michael and Blake Bennett. They later divorced. He married Paulette Thompson in 1989.
He attended Kaysville Elementary School, Preston High School, and graduated from Davis High School. He went on to earn his Associate’s Degree at WSU. He served in the US Army 1953-55 and worked as a helicopter mechanic, serving in Germany.
He started work at Hill AFB in 1952 as a carburetor mechanic and in the course of 35 years, rose to the position of Branch Chief in the Maintenance Directorate. His career also included 2 ½ years in Iran which brought with it many memories along with many cherished, lifelong friends. He was a member of the National Association of Supervisors, and the Hill Administrative Club for which he was awards narrator for many years.
He retired from the Base in 1989 to travel, ski and ride ATVs. Bill was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Kaysville Jaycees and served as local President, State Vice President and U.S. National Director.
He was also President of the Kaysville Civic Association, and a member of the Kaysville Lions Club. He could fix almost anything. Well, “almost anything” if it wasn’t computer related.
He was known as the handy-man of the neighborhoods where he lived and enjoyed helping his neighbors. He was generous with the vegetables from his garden and took pride in his well-groomed yards. He is survived by his loving wife, Paulette; son, Blake (Julie) Bennett; daughter-in-law, Mary Collier; step-children, Erik (Ramona) Thompson and Natalie (Kyle) Monson; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Kaye (Ned) Klitgaard; brother, Richard (Gail) Bennett, brother-in-law, Linden (Kathleen) Beckstead, and extended family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; grandson, Leland Bennett; and sister, Anne Beckstead. Very special appreciation to his Physician of 30+ years, Bryan Campbell and his nurse, Teri Coffey. Bill enjoyed many extra years due to their professional and loving care.
