FORT EDWARD- William C. Baldwin, 70, passed away on Sunday October 7, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on November 19, 1947, he was the son of Elmer and Lucille (Brennan) Baldwin. Bill was raised in South Glens Falls, graduated from South High and attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
Bill had a unique, dry sense of humor and always tried to look at the lighter side of life’s issues. An avid debater, he loved to discuss a wide array of topics. He would often take the other side of an argument as a “devil’s advocate”, just to make a point.
To be sure, having a conversation with Bill was always a memorable experience. He also had a passion for music. He enjoyed all genres of music and was a self-taught guitarist.
Playing guitar and singing around the fire at family gatherings and at the annual Boys’ Trip was one of Bill’s favorite past times. He was a die-hard sports fan, rooting for the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. Bill was a skilled electrician and learned his trade while at General Electric in Hudson Falls.
He was a very capable manager playing a pivotal role in companies like Mallinckrodt and the Fort Miller Company. Bill also became a jack of all trades while owning and maintaining numerous properties in the area. On October 1, 1977 Bill married Karen Gilday of Beverly, Massachusetts.
Together they raised four children in Hartford, New York: son Benjamin of Newcomb, daughter Dalia (Josh) Koons of Hudson Falls, son Thomas (Ashley) of San Antonio, Texas and daughter Kiersten Baldwin (Todd Howard) of Hudson Falls. His grandchildren are Corrin Baker, Aliza, Brianna, and Kaylee Baldwin as well as Simon, Lillian, and Sophie Koons. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by brother-in-law, William Philo and nephew, William C. Philo.
Survivors also include: his sisters Sandra (Nick) Buttino, Patti Philo, Lynn (Ger) Hay, and Jean (Ken) Mattison, all of South Glens Falls, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cousins: Timothy (Jane) Badger of Queensbury, John Welch of Newport, Vermont, Gary (Maureen) Badger of Brownington, Vermont and Greg (Michelle) Welch of Marshfield, Massachusetts. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Louie Wright and his wife, Selena, and daughter, Crystal, for their wonderful care given to Bill during his illness and allowing him to enjoy the comforts of his own home up until his passing.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to Community Hospice Foundation 310 South Manning Boulevard Albany, New York 12208.
