William D M Ghee , January 19, 1937 — June 23, 2018

William Denver McGhee died on June 23,2018. He was born in Middleport, Ohio on January 19 1937 to Anna Mary Waddell McGhee and Denver McGhee. His mother, Anna, his aunts Mabel and Helen and uncle Walter Waddell lovingly raised Bill.

Bill’s wife of 57 years, Julie and son Timothy (Molly), daughters Ellen Pickerel (Steve) and Louisa Clark (Randy) and much loved grandchildren, Brittany, Emma, Joshua, Liam, Jacob, Emily, Alexander and Katherine survive him as well as his brother-in-law, Michael O’Keefe and sister-in-law, VirginiaO’Keefe as well as nieces and nephews who also survive him. Bill attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from The Ohio State University. He received a Master from Xavier University.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army both active duty and reserve. He worked at Battelle Memorial Institute and taught all levels of mathematics at Grandview Heights High School for 32 years during which time he enlightened several generations of Grandview’s students while incorporating current technology into his classroom. While teaching at Grandview H.S. Bill coached Boys Tennis teams.

Bill used his skills to format the book Transplanted Shamrocks: Recollections of Central Ohio Irish-Americans, a collection of family stories from our local Irish-Americans. This effort coincided with his ongoing interest in genealogy. Bill was a member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus, the Catholic Record Society, the Columbus Historical Society and he was a long time member of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
