William E. Bort, 87, of Conneaut, OH, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on May 8, 2018. He was born November 16, 1930 in Conneaut and was the son of Maurice and Florence (Messenger) Bort. William served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged.

Following his service to our country, he returned home to work for the Army Corps of Engineers, and retired from the maintenance department at Premix in 1993. He was a former member of the East Conneaut United Methodist Church and the Conneaut Trailbusters Snowmobile Club. William was very active and enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, playing bingo and cards, golfing and having lunch with the 8 O’clock club.

Most meaningful to him, was spending time with family and friends. Survivors include four daughters; Rebecca (Richard) Gaugh of Conneaut, Deborah (Endil) Moore of Nenana, Alaska, Cheryl Ecklund of Ashtabula, and Gloria (Rick) Austin of Ashtabula; his son: Matt (Sue) of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren Julia (Bryan Cook) Moore, Jason ( Michelle) Moore, Sarah Gaugh, Ryan (Mollie) Bort, John (Kelsey) Bort, Kyle Bort, and Steve and Rob Austin; his great grandchildren Emily, Erin and Isabella Moore, Bryson Cook, Raegan, Jack and Matty Bort, Joey Bort, and JJ Austin. He is also survived by his companion Betty Laitinen of Conneaut; and his sisters Jean Mathews of Girard, PA, Eva Morey of Texas, Lois Pribulick, of Alabama, and Mary Wheeler of Pierpont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie Bort; his son-in-law Jeff Ecklund; his brother Jake Bort; and his sisters Alberta Selogy, and June Holod. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Tim Kraus of Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, May 12, from 5-7:00 PM.

, and also 1 hour prior to the funeral on Sunday from 1-2 PM. Burial will take place Monday at 10:00 AM, at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Rt. 20, Kingsville, OH, with military honors provided by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
