Obituary for William Earl Herberling William Earl Heberling of San Antonio, Texas passed away May 4, 2018 at the age of 86. He was born in Williamstown, Pennsylvania on August 1, 1931. He joined and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
After the war, he returned to Pennsylvania and worked around Williamstown until he entered the Civil Service at Olmsted Air Force Base. He was transferred to Kelly Air Force Base in 1966 and remained working there until his retirement in 1988. Bill was an avid HAM radio operator for many years.
He enjoyed making and talking to new friends around the world and helping new radio operators get trained and licensed. Bill also enjoyed building model trains and planes. They were a passion of his and he spent many hours working on the patio to create his scale models.
Bill had a deep love for and many happy times with his Bishon Frise family members Beau, Alfie, Jana, and Katie over the years. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Winifred Mae Shaffner, and second wife, Sarah Louise McWhorter both of whom he loved dearly; brothers John and Robert Heberling; sister Patricia Heberling; and step-daughter Margaret Jeanne Manley. He is survived by sisters Mary Trotman and Cecilia Wise, both of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Mary Hand of Oklahoma; cousins Evelyn and Louise James of Pennsylvania; nephew Scott Hand of California; and niece Susan Bellows of Oklahoma.
His Texas “bonus” family, as he liked to refer to them, includes step-daughter Deborah Albers and husband Kenneth, step-son Barry Manley, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Services to be held at Mission Park North Cemetery, 20900 IH 10 W, San Antonio, TX on Friday May 11, 2018. Graveside visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by graveside service, conducted by Ron Hilbern, at 2:30pm.
