Obituary for Mr. William F. MacHaffie Mr. William K. MacHaffie, 96, passed away peacefully on January 2nd at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born in Pittsfield, February 2, 1922, the son of Earl and Mae Sniffen MacHaffie, he attended the local schools and graduated in 1941 from Pittsfield High School.

A proud WWII veteran, he served from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was assigned to the 45th Repair Squadron as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic, and later a squadron leader flying C-47 troop transport and supply missions to London, Paris, Brussels and Luxembourg in the Army Air Corps. Attaining the rank of Staff Sargent, he also transported many high ranking military leaders to and from the battlefront.

He was the recipient of the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. MacHaffie was the owner of MacHaffie Brothers Contractors for 50 years with his brother Jack (Scotty) MacHaffie. They started in the late 1940’s building and remodeling several homes in the Southeast section of Pittsfield with Dan and Bud Gall, then later throughout Berkshire County and Eastern New York State.

Retiring in 2000 at the age of 78, but still did odd jobs for customers for the next 5 years. He and his late wife, the former Jeanne LaRouche were married Sept. 6, 1946.

She passed away on January 4, 2012. He built their home at 558 Elm St. in Pittsfield in 1954 were they resided and raised their family of 6 children. Later they resided at 718 Dalton Division Rd.

Pittsfield. He leaves a daughter, Linda MacHaffie-Levante (Glenn), four sons, Glenn MacHaffie and his ex-wife Sally Walden (Bennett), Craig MacHaffie (Amy), and David MacHaffie (Jamie),former daughter-in-law Karen MacHaffie, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son Dale W. MacHaffie on July 10, 2010, Allan G. MacHaffie on June 24,2015, a daughter, Lisa MacHaffie on Jan.

24, 1965, a grandson, Shaun MacHaffie on Jan. 12, 2011, and a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ross MacHaffie on Dec. 3, 2007.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for the extraordinary and compassionate care of our father during his years at the facility. FUNERAL NOTICE A graveside service for William will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
