Mr. William G. Jennings Jr., 80, a resident of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life early Thursday morning in the care of Residential Hospice inpatient unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre following a recent illness. Born November 11, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son to the late William and Anna (Evans) Jennings Sr. Educated in the city schools, he attended the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Following his formal education, Mr. Jennings proudly served our country with the United States Marine Corps with the First Automotive Field Maintenance at the Wyoming barracks.

He was honorably discharged from duties just prior to the Vietnam Conflict on July 22, 1964. Until his retirement, Mr. Jennings was employed in the maintenance department at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Plains Township for twenty years. Prior to that, he worked as a pipe fitter for the former Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company for thirteen years.

In his spare time, and appreciating the history of Wyoming Valley’s anthracite coal era, he was an avid collector of mining artifacts. Enjoying the outdoors, he previously was an avid fisherman, and took pride in his yard work, tending to his many seasonal gardens over the years. He also previously held membership in the Free and Accepted Masons locally.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Alice Marie Steczkowski on September 21, 2014. At the time of Mrs. Jennings’ passing, the couple shared some fifty-seven years of married life together, being wed on May 18, 1957. He also was preceded by several younger brothers and sisters.

Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his only adoring daughter, Mrs. Linda Lee Bernoski and her husband James of West Pittston; Grandsons, James Henry Bernoski and his wife Aimee and Travis William Bernoski; Several nieces, nephews, neighbors and dear friends. Per Mr. Jennings’ wishes, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of his family. There will be no formal visitation periods.
