William J. Curtis, 65, passed away unexpectedly after an extended illness at LeCounte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. William was born on April 5, 1953 in South Bend, IN to Harry and Mary J. (Hartman) Curtis. William was a life-long resident of Michiana.

He retired from AM General in March of 2012 after 34 years of faithful service as a painter. William proudly served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a loving father, grandfather and husband who raised his children entirely on his own.

He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley and cheering on Notre Dame. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 0189 Walkerton and VFW Post # 1954 North Liberty. William is survived by his wife and love of his life, Karen (Carpenter) Curtis of Mishawaka; son Jeff (Melanie) Curtis of Osceola; daughter Samantha (Blake) Kovacevich of South Bend; stepsons Jason (Angie) Dipert of Martinsville, IN and Justin Dipert of Mishawaka; grandchildren Trinity, Andrew, Brianna, Carter, Curtis and Chance; step-grandchildren Olivia, A.J., Jacob and Olivia Marie; sisters Windy M. Clark of LaPorte and Rebecca Sue Andrus of Lake Suzie, FL; brothers Harry H. Curtis of Cicero, IN and Thomas C. Curtis of Walkerton; as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents and daughters Amanda Sheppard and Andrea Curtis. A burial of ashes will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton, IN. Memorial contributions may be made in William’s honor to Disabled American Veterans, 2122 W. Taylor Street #104, Chicago IL, 60612.
