Mr. William Julian Roberts passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 in St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula. He was born in Butte, Friday, July 24, 1942 to William T. and Elizabeth (Goyette) Roberts. He attended the Whittier School and graduated from Butte High School.

Bill served his country in the United States Air Force as well as the Montana National Guard from which he retired. Bill worked as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic for the Anaconda Company until its closure. He later worked for Mining City Merchant Police working at several locations including the mall and as the “El Taco Cop” for many years.

He also worked as a guard at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge until his retirement in 2004. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, enjoyed bowling and served as the secretary for the men’s league at the Winter Garden. He was a lifelong member of the Mountain View Methodist Church, where he met and married his wife Delores “De” Maunder on September 12, 1965.

Bill was a 20 year survivor of Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, De Roberts of Butte, daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Ken Wedlake of Butte, son, Scott Roberts and Angela Brown of Billings, grandchildren: Amber McKinnon of Missoula, Ashleigh McKinnon and Weston Super of Kalispell, Abbeygayle McKinnon of Butte, Kaylee Roberts and Kiara Roberts both of Butte, great-grandson, Tripp McKinnon also of Butte. Also surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law, Helen and Russ Whindom, Susan Caldwell, brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Kim Roberts, brother-in-law, Ed Ballensky, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debi and Bruce Williams as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Other survivors include two lifelong friends, Arch Richardson and Charles Murrish as well as his two furballs, Kelly Sue and Grizzleigh. Besides his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Ballensky and son-in-law, Mark McKinnon and in-laws Fred and Audrey Maunder. Memorials can be made to Freedom Service Dogs of America, Chelesa Bailey Animal Shelter, or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
