Mr. William G. “Bill” Signor, 87, of 11581 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 in Waynesboro Hospital. Born August 12, 1931 in York, PA, he was the son of the late Gordon and Viola (Myers) Signor. Bill grew up in Gettysburg, PA, graduating from Gettysburg High School with the class of 1949.

He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 2 years receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954. He worked as a machine operator in the Shoe Factory in Hanover, PA after graduation. In 1951 he began his career with the Federal Government at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA.

He worked there until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1952. He was re-employed at Letterkenny Army Depot shortly after discharge. During his employment with the Federal Government he served in a variety of positions.

The majority of his employment was in the electronic field beginning in 1958. In 1970 he transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he worked for 14 years. In 1984 he transferred to Site R, Fort Ritchie, MD.

He retired from the Federal Government in 1986. Bill was a Mason and Shriner. He was a member and Past Master of Phoenix Lodge #8 A.F. & A.M. in Fayetteville, NC and a member of Sudan Temple in New Bern, NC.

He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Hope Mills, NC and the American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro, PA. Bill enjoyed and participated in all sports in his early years. He started playing golf while he was in the service and became addicted to the game.

He was on a golf course every chance he had and never gave up on the game until ordered to do so by his doctor. He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Mrs. Ruth (Kruger) Signor whom he married September 19, 1956; step-son, Michael Hankey of Newville, PA; a step-grandson, Carl Hankey of Newville, PA; brother, Robert Signor of Gettysburg, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Riley.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Epilepsy Re Center of Central PA, 900 S.
