Willie J. (Buddy) Sones was born September 16, 1936 in Walnut Grove, MS to Claude and Lyda Sones. He passed away at his Lake Lorman home May 16, 2018 after a eighteen month courageous and brave journey with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with services immediately following at Twin Lakes Baptist Church, 673 Lake Cavalier Road, Madison, MS 39110.

Interment will follow at 3 pm in Fuston Cemetery in Walnut Grove, MS. He spent his childhood in Walnut Grove and Pascagoula, MS. He was a 1954 graduate of Walnut Grove High School.

Following two years at East Central Junior (Community) College, he began working for the Mississippi Highway Department ( M.D.O.T. ) After a few years, he began a 26 year career with Jackson Ready Mix. Returning to M.D.O.T.

, he retired in 1998 with 17 years of service. A sports enthusiast, he loved cheering for all MS teams but especially M.S. U. A very giving person, his priorities were his faith, his family, his church, and his many friends. He was a charter member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church having served several years as Sunday School secretary.

He was active in church activities until his health declined. Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, Bettye Reeves Sones and his daughter, Cindy Carol Sones. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary Ann Sones of Madison, MS, his daughter, Dr. Christy Sones Barnett (Clay) of Hattiesburg and her children, Micah, Noah, and Claire Thornton of Hattiesburg, MS, daughter, Rhonda Douglas and her grandchild, Katelynn Thomas, of Brandon.

He is also survived by a sister, Valentine Jones of Walnut Grove, a nephew, Michael Jones of Walnut Grove and a niece Dr. Melinda Jones (Katherine) of Memphis, TN. The family is most grateful to Drs. Nicole Cleveland, Reid Cotten, Eugene Loper, StaHome Hospice and to special friends and Twin Lakes Baptist Church for their loving support to Buddy and Mary Ann during this journey.

Pallbearers are Woody Holt, Jim Wilkerson, Lars Johnson, Calvin Morris, Bennie Nutt, and Lewis Deel. Honorary pallbearers are Richard McCraw, Jack Ware, Ray Britt, Joe Sullins, and Twin Lakes Baptist Men.
