She enjoyed eight more years in Texas before moving to Springfield, MO. Lucenda volunteered and worked as a literacy and GED instructor with the Rankin County School District until retirement. Affectionately known as “Momma, MiMi, (Aunt) Cindy”, she enjoyed loving and serving God, spending time with family, cake decorating, reading, gardening and tending to her flowers and plants.

Cindy was a gentle, sweet, and true Southern Belle with a peaceful and comforting presence that was so easy to love. She not only spoke it, but lived her love toward everyone whose life she touched. Through her love for God, she lovingly prioritizing others and took great satisfaction in being a caring comforter who warmed everyone’s hearts and continually made us all smile.

She always opened not only her heart, but also her home to anyone who needed a place to live for a while or a second Mom. Specifically after her younger sister’s leaving early on, she became Montez and Walt Strong’s second Mom -several others similarly as well. She so naturally set the bar of kindness very high for us all to reach, and we will miss her dearly with the hope to see her again someday.
