Willie J. Hunt of Lumberton, NC received his eternal reward on Thursday, November 22, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family; after a prolonged illness, making a journey on this earth of 68 years. Preceding him death were his parents, Brantley & Gertrude Hunt; his brothers, Hardee Hunt & Dick Hunt; his sisters Shirley Revels & Ella Mae Hunt; and a precious daughter, Gerta Marie Hunt whom we know he is now thrilled to be with. Willie is survived by his wife of 21 years, Judy Hunt of the home; daughters Mironda (Harvey) of Tampa, Fla & Lanita Hunt of Lumberton; step-sons Brandon (Ciara) Dial of Raleigh & Justin (Kristen) Dial of Lumberton.

He is also survived by his sisters Rosalie (Samuel) Hunt & Liza Goode, and brother, Oliver Hunt, all of Lumberton; sister-in-law Bertha Hunt of Fairmont. Also left to remember their “Pa Will” are 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Pa Will loved them all, but his grandson Triston, held a very special place in his heart.

A number of nieces and nephew also remain to remember their “Uncle Willie”; as well as a host of extended family members and friends. In the early years of his life, Willie tried several things as a career or “way to make a dollar”, as he would say; and realized his love and passion was in rebuilding & painting vehicles. He counted himself blessed to be self-employed, Hunt’s Body Shop, for 30+ years.

If you asked Willie how he wanted to be remembered, he would tell you, ‘a man not afraid of work’; & his work ethics epitomized the type man he was. Willie’s passions included Nascar racing, motorcycle riding and traveling. As a younger man, he absolutely loved the thrill and danger of racing motorcycles.

And, as far as Will was concerned, ‘the faster, the better’. Then (as he matured) he bought a Honda Gold Wing and found himself with a new love. Over the years he owned 5 Gold Wings; and not only did he love to ride long distance (most especially the mountains) & enjoy the beauty of this country, he also loved building a ‘show bike’ and competing in bike shows.

Will was a lifetime member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) and was very involved for many years. During the course of his tenure while an active member, he served in many capacities, locally and statewide. He felt that his time with GWRRA were some of the most enjoyable years of his life.

Unfortunately, his battle with Parkinson’s Disease forced him to give up work and motorcycle riding, to focus on his health. In recent years, his life was confined to a life at home and traveling was only for trips of necessity; however, he was blessed for many years to be able to travel with his family and travel with his motorcycle family to many places throughout the country.
