Mr. Willmer R. Cooper, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Willmer Ross Cooper was born April 28, 1936, at home in Traer to Orla Emmett and Mary Lula (Freet) Cooper. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1955.

Willmer married Darlene Vore February 19, 1956, Evangelical United Brethren Church in Toledo. The couple recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Willmer worked all of his life in the grocery industry where he was an owner operator for many years.

Later he worked for the Holiday Grocery Company until retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt. Willmer enjoyed family time, camping, bowling, attending Iowa Hawkeye games, working and keeping his vehicles washed and waxed.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; children and their spouses, Steven and Emily Cooper of Ankeny, Cheryl and James Paasch of Clinton, Mark and Maggie Cooper of Sun City West, Arizona, Penny and David St.Ores of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Kelly and Robert Determann of Camanche; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Verna Stamp of Garwin and Marilou Shreck of Arveda, Colorado. Preceding Willmer in death were a grandson, Jason Paasch; his parents; brothers, Merle, Roland and Kenneth and sisters, Eva Stamp and Ellen McCreary. The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019.

A service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the church with Pastor Tom Boomershine officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt at a later date. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Muscular Dystrophy Association or the United Methodist Church, DeWitt.
