Obituary for Wilma Martin Florence Wilma Martin, 88, entered into the arms of Jesus Wednesday morning, January 2, 2019, following a brief illness. Wilma was born on July 28, 1930, in Kingsport, TN, to the late Fred and Iva G. Bowery. She was a lifelong member of the Fordtown community and graduated from Holston Institute.
A member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, Wilma enjoyed cooking and baking. She served as a nurse for both Holston Valley Hospital and for Dr. C.A. Renfro, as a secretary at Tri-City Trane, as a Pharmacy tech at Colonial Heights Pharmacy, and was also employed at East Lawn Funeral Home. Wilma dedicated her life to serving other.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary Bowery. Left to cherish her memories is the love of her life, husband Hubert Martin.
She leaves behind sons, Tommy Martin and wife Shari, Danny Martin and wife Glenda, along with two grandchildren who were her pride and joy; Jennifer Greeson and Christopher Martin. Wilma is also survived by grandson-in-law Andrew Greeson and granddaughter-in-law Shelley Martin. She had five beautiful great-grandchildren, Quinn, Callan, and Georgia Greeson and Christopher Martin.
Brother Phil Bowery and wife, Jane, along with sister, Bobbie Gilbert and sister-in-law, Judy Bowery, remember her for her generous spirit. She had several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Special Thank you to the caregivers and staff at Brookdale in Colonial Heights who loved her so much.
Receiving of friends will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Sunnyside Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00 PM with a funeral service to follow. Wilma will be laid to rest on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the East Tennessee Cemetery in the Garden of Devotion with Pastor Roy Graves officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Bowery, Andrew Greeson, Jimmy Hensley, Keith Smith, Christopher Martin, David Martin, David Martin Jr., Daniel Martin, and Linus Martin.
