Wilma’s Obituary Wilma Schelling, age 88, of Orange City, IA died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Netherlands Reformed Church with Rev. H. Hofman, officiating.

Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. There will be a private family prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Visitation with the family present will be held on Monday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. The Wilma Schelling family prefer memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Wilmina Henrietta Schelling was born June 2, 1930 to John R. and Harriet (Vermeer) Vander Schaaf on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. She grew up on the farm and attended Country School and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1948. Wilma was united in marriage to Gilbert Schelling on January 11, 1950.

They made their home on a farm near Hudson before moving to a farm near Sioux Center where they raised their six children. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Wilma loved to sew, make braided rugs, read, and embroider.

She really enjoyed bus trips with her husband and taking many family fishing trips. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gilbert; her children, Shirley (Abe) Den Hoed of Hull, IA, Robert (Sharon) Schelling of Sioux Center, IA, Harlan (Jane) Schelling of Orange City, IA, Lois (Enno) Haan of Clarks Grove, MN, Marvin (Kathy) Schelling of Orange City, IA, and Karen (Bud) Kuiken of Hartford, SD; 25 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; siblings, Milton (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Hardwick, MN, Herlon (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA, Henrietta Vander Broek of Orange City, IA, June (Harold) Driesen of Hull, IA, Audrey (Ken) Van Grouw of Remsen, IA, Delbert Vander Schaaf of Orange City, IA, Roger (Charlotte) Vander Schaaf of Lake Wilson, MN, Helen (Don) Statema of Hospers, IA, and Arlys Zomermaand of Sioux Center, IA; and sisters-in-law Betty and Sharon Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jim and Wayne Vander Schaaf; brothers-in-law, Bud Vander Broek, and Ed Zomermaand; and sister-in-law, Elda Vander Schaaf.
