Winfield Francis Poe January 22, 2019 – February 01, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Winfield Francis Poe was born to Pearl and Myrtle Poe on January 22, 1928 in University Park, Iowa. In January of 1946, Winfield enlisted in the Army, to later then be medically discharged on May 31, 1947. Later, Winfield accepted Jesus as his savior and the Lord healed him.

In August, his sister Mary invited him to attend Bible school. Not exactly certain of his ailment but his dyslexia, he thought as a hindrance. He told his sister that he couldn’t go because the other kids would laugh at him.

Mary told him, “No Winfield, they’re Christian”. So, he decided to go and at the age of 19, he started as a freshman in high school. He met his wife, Laura Heathman and married on August 4, 1948 in Ava, Missouri.

To this union was born two sons; Theodore Francis (T. F) and James Irvin; four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. One of his teachers said he dreamed of teaching him how to read after school, this drove Winfield to work very hard, at last having the grades to show his determination and dedication.

This all led to him writing 6 books. He worked as an Evangelist, traveling to 32 states and 15 countries. 37 years of that work was in Haiti, where he had a position as a director for 20 years with the Holiness Pilgrim Mission in Haiti.

Winfield pastored churches in Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, and South Dakota, preaching many camp meetings in the United States and Canada. Due to his wife’s health condition, Winfield had to resign to care for her. They then moved to Gravette, Arkansas in 2014, attending the Church of God Holiness.

He also worked at the local hospital, Ozark Community Hospital, as a Chaplin. Winfield was preceded in death by four brothers; Joseph Leroy of Sholes, IN, James of Lenexa, KS, Pearl P. Jr. of Montezuma, IA, Melvin of Carthage, MO, and one sister, Elsie Marrow of Kirksville, MO. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Laura F. Poe of Gravette, Arkansas; two sons, Theodore Poe (Janice) of Hiwasse, Arkansas, James Poe of Hiwasse, Arkansas; two sisters, Ethel Curtis of Promise City, Iowa, Mary Thompson of Ava, Missouri; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A service for Winfield will be held Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd. , Bella Vista, AR 72715. A graveside will immediately follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery, 401 Cemetery N.W., Gravette, AR 72736.

Visitation will take place the day before on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., also at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holiness Pilgrim Mission, P.O. Box 658, Shoals, IN 47581. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.
