Valenzuela, 76, passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Knapp Medical Center. Mr. Valenzuela was born April 4, 1942 to Jose & Teresa Valenzuela in Juanacatlan Jalisco Mexico and immigrated to the United States in the early 1950’s. He resided in Progreso, TX and attended Progreso schools.

At an early age, he worked for Bud Horn, who was instrumental in guiding and teaching him about automobiles while working at his Mobile Gasoline Station. He later worked for Yoder Motors in McAllen, Weslaco Motors, and then built his own business, Rio Machine Shop & Service, which he had for over 45 years. He met the love of his life, Juanita Sanchez, in 1958 and they married on November 20, 1960.

His passions included gardening, baseball, softball, football, and everything relating to automobiles. Mr. Valenzuela was a fan of the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. He coached little league for many years.

He also played in softball and baseball leagues in the Rio Grande Valley and in Mexico in the early 1960’s. He was one of the original members of the Caballeros of San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, and volunteered his time in many of their functions. Family was important to him and he always did everything in his power to meet their needs.

Mr. Valenzuela is preceded in death by his parents & 1 daughter, Claudia A. Valenzuela. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Valenzuela of Weslaco, TX; 1 son, Jose Valenzuela of Kyle, TX; 5 daughters, Martha Valenzuela, Patricia Carreon (Roel), Sylvia Valenzuela, Cristi Arevalo (Eddie), all of Weslaco, TX, Belinda Garcia (Rey) of Mission, TX & 2 sisters, Lucy Marquez of Weslaco, TX, Rosie Urenda of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 with a 7:00 p.m. rosary at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Angels. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Roel Carreon, Eddie Arevalo, Rey Garcia, John Sanchez & Brandon Urena. Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N. Texas Ave. , Weslaco, TX (956) 969-1461.
