Zelma’s Obituary Zelma Mae Kneen, age 86 of Woonsocket, SD, formerly of Artesian, SD passed away at the Prairieview Healthcare Center in Woonsocket. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 22 at the Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 PM on Friday; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Zelma Mae Wormstadt, the daughter of Fred and Irene (Tompkins) Wormstadt, was born on September 22, 1932 in Huron, SD. Zelma was baptized on May 5, 1935 and confirmed on May 25,1947 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Woonsocket. She grew up on the family farm in Floyd Township where she attended grade school.

Zelma graduated from Forestburg High School in 1951. Zelma married Orie Kneen on March 7, 1952. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Artesian area until Orie’s death in1997.

Zelma remained on the farm until May of 2017 when she moved to Countryside living in Mitchell. In October of 2018 Zelma moved to Prairieview Care Center in Woonsocket due to health issues. Zelma was a member of the Lutheran Church in Forestburg, SD.

She was also a member of the American Cancer Society. Zelma enjoyed quilting, embroidering dishtowels, playing cards, and gardening. Zelma loved to bake for her family and was famous for her nightshade pies.

Zelma was also known for her wedding cakes. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in Zelma’s life are her children: Arthur (Audrey) Kneen of Artesian, SD, Robert (Velma) Kneen of Forestburg, SD, JoAnne (Terry) Powers of Lewis, KS, and Jerry (Roylene) Kneen of Mitchell, SD; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Melva (Harold) Jastram of Surprise, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irene; husband, Orie Kneen in 1997; grandson Matt Yule; two grandchildren in infancy brother, Lester Wormstadt; and sister, Helen Baker.
