A. “Jack” Butter, 91, of Moline, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Bethel Wesley Church in Moline. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services.

Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Bethel Wesley Church. Jack was born on November 10, 1927 in Moline, the son of Alexander and Marguerite (Gerwin) Butter.

He graduated Moline High School in 1946 and went on to be a mail carrier for Moline post office, retiring in 1983. He then was a part time delivery driver for Hignight’s Florist in East Moline. Additionally, Jack volunteered delivering for Meals on Wheels for many years.

Jack married Dolores M. Noble on June 6, 1954 in Moline. He served in the U.S. Army between 1953 and 1955 and was a member of the American Legion #246. He was also a member of Bethel Wesley Church.

Jack was an original member of the Moline Family Campers and a 60-year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Other hobbies included gardening and especially enjoyed raising Dahlias. He spent many hours on woodworking projects and enjoyed traveling and hiking.

He will be especially remembered for always having a joke to share. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; son, Keith (Hazel) Butter, Moline; 3 grandchildren, Alex and Rachel Butter of Moline, and Hailey Soady, Des Moines, IA; great granddaughter, Sophia, Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Soady, a son and two daughters in infancy, parents, and 2 sisters, Helen Taylor and Polly Salter.
