After graduating from Pella High, Class of 1943, Abe served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater at the end of World War II. After coming home, he was united in marriage to Sally Mott in 1948. This union was blessed with three children: Fran, Don, and Tom.

Abe moved his family to rural Knoxville in 1952 where he continued his lifelong career of cattle feeding and row crop farming. Abe was a product of The Great Depression. He was hard-working and conservative and this governed how he farmed and lived his life.

He was an early adopter of conservation farming. He cared for his land and livestock, made careful decisions, and had a natural ability for management and a knack for timing. Abe had a great love for his family and was proud of the legacy that he built for them.

Abe spent years farming with his son, Don, and was pleased when his grandson, Tanner, joined the operation. Abe, 92, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018.
